1 October 1935 is the day Julie Andrews was born

In Walton-on-Thames, Surrey, eighteen miles south of London.
1956 was the year that saw Julie becoming an international household name
with her very successful leading role as Eliza in the stage musical hit of that decade
My Fair Lady.

In 1965 her performance in Mary Poppins won her the Academy Award for Best Actress.
In 1966 she was nominated for an Academy Award again for her role in one of the biggest box office hits in cinema history, The Sound of Music.

In 2000, despite her long exile in the United States and Switzerland, she was made a Dame Commander of the British Empire (DBE).

Happy Birthday to you, Dame Julie Andrews!
